MBBS Abroad

12 Questions

Is NEET mandatory for MBBS abroad?

+
Yes, NEET qualification is mandatory as per NMC (National Medical Commission) guidelines for all Indian students who wish to pursue MBBS abroad and later practice medicine in India. You need a NEET score to be eligible for the FMGE/NExT screening examination upon return. Minimum cutoff: General category — 50th percentile; SC/ST/OBC — 40th percentile.

Can I practice medicine in India after MBBS abroad?

+
Yes! After completing MBBS from an NMC-approved foreign university, Indian students must clear either the FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) or the upcoming NExT (National Exit Test) to obtain an Indian medical license. The process is:
  • Complete MBBS + 1 year internship abroad
  • Register degree on NMC India portal
  • Clear FMGE or NExT Step 1 (theory)
  • Clear NExT Step 2 (clinical skills)
  • Receive Indian Medical License
Many of our students have cleared FMGE on the first attempt from our partner universities.

How do I know if a university is NMC approved?

+
The NMC (National Medical Commission) maintains an official list of recognized foreign medical institutions on their website at nmc.org.in. All universities we recommend at A to Z Consultancy are verified NMC-approved and WHO-listed. We never recommend an institution that is not on the approved list. You can also ask our counsellors to share the official NMC list entry for any university we recommend.

What is the duration of MBBS abroad?

+
MBBS programs abroad are 6 years in total — 5 years of academic coursework plus 1 year of mandatory clinical internship (which can be done abroad or in India). This is the same structure as MBBS in India, ensuring the degree meets NMC requirements for FMGE/NExT eligibility.

Is Indian food available in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia?

+
Yes — in all three countries:
  • Kazakhstan: Indian restaurants and grocery stores in Almaty and Nur-Sultan. Large Indian student community organizes regular cultural events and mess facilities.
  • Uzbekistan: Halal food widely available — culturally very similar to India. Most university cities have Indian mess facilities catering exclusively to Indian students.
  • Russia: Indian restaurants in major cities like Moscow, Kazan, Kursk. University-organized Indian mess facilities common near popular campuses.

How safe are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Russia for Indian students?

+
All three countries are considered safe for Indian students with well-established Indian communities. Key safety highlights:
  • University campuses have 24/7 security
  • Indian student associations in every major city to support newcomers
  • Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have very low crime rates
  • Indian Embassy presence in all three capital cities
  • 10,000+ Indian students already studying in these destinations
We conduct a pre-departure orientation covering safety, emergency contacts, and practical tips.

Is MBBS taught in English abroad?

+
Yes — all our partner MBBS universities in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia offer 100% English-medium MBBS programs specifically designed for international students. You are NOT required to learn Russian or Kazakh for medical education. However, basic local language skills are helpful for daily life and communicating with patients during clinical rotations, which universities often provide as a supplementary subject.

Is IELTS or TOEFL required for MBBS abroad?

+
No, IELTS/TOEFL is not required for MBBS admissions in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, or Russia. The primary requirements are NEET qualification and 12th PCB with 50% marks. This makes MBBS abroad more accessible than many overseas education programs that require English proficiency tests.

Where can I do my MBBS internship — in India or abroad?

+
You have both options:
  • Abroad internship: Complete the mandatory 1-year internship at the affiliated hospitals of your university. This is the most common choice as it counts toward your FMGE/NExT eligibility.
  • India internship: Some NMC-approved foreign universities allow students to return to India for their internship at recognized Indian hospitals, subject to NMC guidelines in effect at the time.
Our counsellors advise based on the latest NMC internship guidelines for your specific batch and university.

Can I appear for USMLE or PLAB after MBBS abroad?

+
Yes! MBBS from WHO-listed, NMC-approved universities qualifies you for:
  • USMLE (USA) — United States Medical Licensing Examination
  • PLAB (UK) — Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board
  • AMC (Australia) — Australian Medical Council exam
  • MCCQE (Canada) — Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam
This global portability makes MBBS abroad an excellent foundation for an international medical career.

When should I apply for MBBS abroad? What are the intake dates?

+
Most MBBS universities in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Russia have intakes in September–October (main intake) with some universities offering a February intake as well. Ideal timeline:
  • May–June: Start counselling after NEET results
  • July: Finalize university, begin application process
  • August: Receive invitation letter, apply for student visa
  • September: Travel and report to university
Contact us immediately after NEET results for the best university options.

Which country is best for MBBS — Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, or Russia?

+
Each country has distinct advantages:
  • Kazakhstan: Best overall balance — affordable, NMC recognized, modern campuses, good FMGE track record. Most recommended for first-time applicants.
  • Uzbekistan: Most affordable fees and living costs. Culturally closest to India. Halal food everywhere. Ideal for budget-conscious students.
  • Russia: 60+ year legacy, QS-ranked universities, eligible for USMLE/PLAB. Slightly higher cost but globally most recognized degrees.
The best choice depends on your NEET score, budget, and career goals. Our counsellors provide a personalized recommendation after assessing your profile — completely free.

Aviation Training

10 Questions

What is the difference between CPL and PPL?

+
PPL (Private Pilot License) allows you to fly aircraft privately for non-commercial purposes — personal travel, leisure. CPL (Commercial Pilot License) qualifies you to fly for hire or reward — essential for an airline career. Most Indian students target CPL. PPL is a mandatory step in the CPL pathway, not a separate career track.

How long does the full CPL program take in New Zealand?

+
A complete CPL program in New Zealand typically takes 18–24 months. The timeline includes:
  • PPL training: 6–8 months
  • Instrument Rating (IR): 3–4 months
  • CPL flight training + theory: 8–10 months
  • Multi-Engine Rating (optional): 1–2 months
New Zealand's 250+ flyable days per year means less weather delays compared to many other countries, helping students complete faster.

Is a CAA New Zealand license valid in India?

+
Yes. CAA NZ licenses are ICAO compliant and can be converted to a DGCA India CPL. The conversion process involves:
  • Appearing for DGCA India written examinations (RTR, Nav, Met, Air Reg etc.)
  • Validating your NZ medical class with DGCA
  • Flying hours verification
Most Indian airlines (IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air) actively recruit NZ-trained pilots. The NZ license is among the most respected internationally.

What is the eligibility for aviation training abroad?

+
General eligibility requirements:
  • Age: 17 years for PPL, 18 years for CPL
  • Education: 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics
  • Medical: Class 2 medical for PPL, Class 1 for CPL (DGCA or CAA NZ)
  • Language: Basic English proficiency
  • NEET: Not required for aviation — open to all streams
Important: Get your Class 1 medical done BEFORE spending on aviation training. Color blindness and some vision/hearing conditions can disqualify candidates. Our team guides you through the medical process.

Can I work after completing CPL in New Zealand?

+
Yes — New Zealand's Post-Study Work Visa allows up to 3 years of work rights after graduation. Many Indian CPL graduates:
  • Work as flight instructors at NZ flight schools to build hours
  • Do charter or scenic tour flying to accumulate hours
  • Apply for cadet programs at NZ airlines (Air New Zealand)
  • Return to India after accumulating 200–500 hours
This work period also helps build the flying hours required for Indian airlines, which typically require 200+ hours for fresher CPL applications.

What is the total cost of CPL training in New Zealand?

+
The total investment for a complete CPL program in New Zealand varies by school and selected program pathway. Key cost components include tuition and flying hours, examination fees, accommodation and living expenses, and visa fees. We do not publish fixed prices as rates vary by year, school, and program structure. Contact our aviation counsellors for a detailed, personalized cost breakdown — we compare all our partner schools and help you choose the best value option for your goals.

How many flying hours are needed for an ATPL?

+
An ATPL (Airline Transport Pilot License) requires a minimum of 1,500 total flight hours including specific requirements for cross-country, instrument, and night flying. This is why most students:
  • Complete CPL first (minimum 200 hours)
  • Work as instructors or charter pilots to build hours
  • Join airline cadet programs that provide line training hours
  • Apply for ATPL theory exams while accumulating hours
ATPL is typically achieved 4–7 years after starting flight training, depending on career progression.

New Zealand vs Australia vs South Africa — which is best for aviation?

+
  • New Zealand: Best overall — 250+ flyable days, ICAO certified, post-study work visa, most internationally recognized. Our top recommendation.
  • Australia: World-class schools, CASA approved, university degree combined with CPL option. Slightly higher cost but excellent quality.
  • South Africa: Most affordable CPL option. 300+ flyable days, ICAO compliant. Best for budget-conscious students. Slightly less recognized than NZ/AU.
Best choice depends on your budget and career goals. Our aviation counsellors can assess your profile and recommend the right country.

What medical fitness is required for aviation?

+
Aviation medical is the most critical eligibility check:
  • Class 1 Medical (for CPL): Required for commercial flying career — strict standards for vision, hearing, cardiovascular health
  • Class 2 Medical (for PPL): Less strict, for private pilots only
  • Color Vision: Normal color vision required for Class 1. Color blindness is a disqualifier for CPL.
  • Eyesight: Corrected vision acceptable for most countries, with specific limits
We strongly recommend getting a Class 1 medical done in India BEFORE applying to any aviation program. Our team can guide you to the right DGCA-authorized medical examiner.

How do I get a job as a pilot in India after CPL?

+
The typical path for Indian CPL graduates:
  • Convert NZ/AU/SA CPL to DGCA India CPL (theory exams + validation)
  • Build flying hours through instruction or charter work
  • Apply for cadet/ab-initio programs at IndiGo, Air India, Akasa Air
  • Join Type Rating programs for specific aircraft (B737, A320 etc.)
  • Complete simulator training + line training on actual aircraft
  • Receive First Officer appointment and begin commercial flying
India is facing a major pilot shortage — demand for pilots is at an all-time high with major expansion by IndiGo, Air India, and Akasa Air.
